The First Funko Pop: A Tiny Titan Is Born

The First Funko Pop: A Tiny Titan Is Born

Long before shelves were sagging under the weight of tiny vinyl versions of literally everything, there was just one. One Pop to rule them all. One figure that tiptoed onto the scene with a disproportionately large head and a destiny as hefty as its boxy packaging.

So, who was the first Funko Pop?

Drumroll, please... It was Batman. Yes, that Batman. The caped crusader himself.

Back in 2010, Funko launched the Pop! Vinyl line (originally dubbed “Funko Force 2.0,” which sounds like a dodgy steam-powered sidekick we’d absolutely sell in our shop). The first wave was a handful of DC Comics characters, but Batman—brooding, boxy, and bold—was the figure that started it all. Little did he know, he’d spark a multiverse of miniature mayhem.

Since then? It's been full-blown Pop-mania. From Disney to Doctor Who, WWE to obscure horror villains no one asked for but everyone now owns, the Pop phenomenon has grown faster than your nan’s rhubarb in spring.

The First Funko Pop: Why Should a Gentle Collector Care?

Because knowing "the first Funko Pop" is like knowing the secret knock on a collectable speakeasy door. It’s the kind of trivia that separates the dabblers from the die-hards.

And if you happen to own the original Batman Pop (numbered #01 in the DC line), congratulations. You are holding a piece of vinyl history. Keep him safe, keep him mint, and for the love of Sherlock, don’t let your cat near the box.

Honourable Mentions in Pop History

  • Freddy Funko – Not technically first, but the original Funko mascot and face of the empire. Think of him as the Queen’s portrait on your collectable currency.

  • Pop! Rides and Pop! Towns – Because sometimes your figure needs a Batmobile. Or a haunted mansion. Or an inexplicable chrome finish.

  • The Great Vaulting – Where Funko retires Pops, sometimes forever. We’re not crying, you’re crying.
